OpenGL gives you direct access to all new graphics features on all platforms, while DirectX only provides occasional snapshots of them on their newest versions of Windows. If OpenGL is faster, why is DirectX still the predominant API? There are more resources on it, and while I personally like OpenGL better, it'll be easier.
