Steam Allocating Disk Space. Steam reserves (allocates) the space required to download a certain game on your PC and optimizes the files to avoid fragmentation. Then re-launch the Steam client on your Desktop and check if the application stops getting stuck on the allocating disk space error message.
Steam has a huge library of games you can buy and download onto your Mac, but if you aren't careful, you'll soon find yourself running out of space on your hard drive for anything new. Does Steam have a minimum disk space requirement on a per game basis? So when I was trying to download this game it ended up downloading Well some games the allocating disk space takes forever to complete.
The "Allocating disk space" message in Steam appears when downloading a game through the Steam client.
It explains why there is still a "not enough space" error with plenty of free space on disk.
Same issue here with the 'Allocating disk space' issue. glad someone else has posted this, as this was the reason for me coming to the forums. If you've also had other downloads that you stopped or paused those are also allocating disk space as well. Mostly, the Steam client is stuck during the installation and the message screen hangs on.
